Herzele - Bridging Town and Park

Designed while collaborating with SumProject + SumResearch, this pilot project in Herzele was developed to bridge the historic town fabric with a new public park behind the city hall. Replacing an outdated building complex, the design introduces a curved pedestrian passage lined with multi-level houses and tiered gardens, fostering both connection and privacy through green buffers. A collective parking facility with an autolift is seamlessly integrated within the building’s form, preserving an active street life. At the junction with the main street, a corner café anchors the project as a social meeting point, encouraging interaction between long-time residents and newcomers. The design was approved by the city and now serves as a model for integrating housing with public space in similar contexts.
