This project transforms an existing single-family house through extensive renovation and expansion into two independent dwellings: an intergenerational triplex and an upper duplex. The triplex accommodates several generations alongside the Archbeeld workspace, with an accessible ground floor designed for elderly residents and wheelchair movement.
Working with the potential and constraints of the existing concrete structure, the design navigates a complex urban context and carefully justified planning derogations. Its split volume mediates between the contrasting depths and roof profiles of the neighbouring buildings.
A stepped garden, terraces and green roofs extend the landscape vertically, bringing greenery and outdoor space close to the living areas on every level. A high-performance envelope, heat pumps, balanced ventilation and photovoltaic panels target an improvement in energy performance from E to A.
